“Glass is unlike any other material, both in its transparency, and its ability to transform itself from liquid to solid in a matter of moments. The glassworker’s realm lies in this middle ground, coercing this glowing hot mass. For me, expressing this moment of flow within the finished piece is the most challenging aspect of working with glass. The teapot and urn vessel forms have been an ongoing source of inspiration. I try to find within their shape and color, a balance of historic precedence and metaphoric reference to the figure. My hope is to move the piece beyond a traditional vessel form, into more sculptural territory.”
